I know Goff has done shit in Detroit but they had a young guy who took them to the SB
Now they got an old choker who can't beat good teams
Goff may not be elite.....but Stafford is really no better for them and older
I said he is trash and he keeps proving it
Rams were road favorites to the Pack lol

He's trash. But still way better than Goff.

Not sure if it was worth mortgaging the future for this. Not just the QB trade, but all these trades and moves.

This team is old. And not that good. Arms race between the Rams and 'Hawks to see who can avoid the NFC West basement the most over the next 5 seasons.

Stafford >>>> Goff all day every day

However, Rams gave up too much and are still giving up too much. It's win now for them. They're mortgaging their future

Good may not be the best term, more like necessary given their situation. Goff in '19-20 wasn't the same player as '17-18.

Stafford is like 10 other QB's in the NFL, if you put him in the right situation he can succeed and the team can be a high end team (Carr, Dak, Tanny, Mac Attack, Burrow, Wentz, JimmyG, Cousins, Ryan, Jameis give or take) but he's had a history of injury issues and Woods was a very underrated loss, Whitworth their LT is almost 40 years old and got worked yesterday. Staff is solid but is what he is, he's done this 3-4x in his career in new situations and always cameback to the pack.

As far as mortgaging their future, I think people do tend to overrate that. If I were an owner, I wouldn't really care if I sucked for 2-3 years after going for it, infact that's probably what I'd intend to do. The bag gets split up evenly either way in the NFL.

There are a lot of guys who get the label that they are a great player saddled with a bad team. Can't think of any examples where that "loser" goes to a new team and had immediate or even longer term success. Between Stafford, his sick wife and going 0-16, and the many, many losing seasons, it is hard to give up all of those draft picks under the guise that the Lions would have been much worse without him.

Jim Plunkett? Maybe not the greatest example, but kind of fits. Certainly not very many examples of this. Most get beat up on their bad teams and lose all confidence. Ruins them forever.

Tannehill is a good example, Phins were never good with him and Tenn is a perennial playoff team

Turned his career around

Stafford has 10 years of mediocrity on his resume.

I dont get why a coach would think that he could "fix" a guy like that??

Staffords' problems were always boneheaded plays and missing wide open people in crunch time.
Same now, same then.
Why would that change???

Only maybe Gannon and Flutie apply there
So Brett Favre being a total flop at Atlanta and getting traded to GB for a 2nd round pick don’t count to you ?

Also SD spending the 1st pick of the draft to draft a QB to replace Drew Brees don’t count ?

Brees did not leave SD because he got hurt . He would have been removed from the starting role after that last season in SD even if he were 100% healthy

Total flop?
He didn't start with Atlanta
No, you have to actually play and either be bad or okay on a bad team....then get traded and have good success
I guess Bress might apply
Can't remember as much

I don't think Brees and Favre are good examples here of what we are talking about.

Brees was a 2nd round pick and did pretty well in San DIego before he was hurt. Probably exceeded most people's expectations. Favre wasn't a first round pick with expectations either. And he really didn't get a chance to be the guy in ATL before being traded.

These other QBs being discussed like Steve Young, Tannehill, Plunkett, and Stafford were all 1st round draft picks (Young with USFL) and all high high expectations. And all were starters on bad teams for at least a couple years before leaving for greener pastures.

Too early to call but Wentz has a chance to be on that list
